INTELEC® The International Communications Energy Conference

INTELEC® is an international annual technical conference which, for the past thirty-nine years, has been the premier forum for the science and engineering of energy systems for Information and Communications Technologies (ICT). Research and technical papers explore the needs and trends in the subject areas of power conversion, energy storage, and high-reliability and mission-critical powering infrastructure. Topics include DC power plants, powering architectures, converters, inverters, batteries, fuel cells, grounding, physical and thermal designs, building and equipment cooling systems.

The 2018 conference will be held in Torino, Italy at the Lingotto Conference Centre.

The conference technical program committee wishes to congratulate all the Authors on the acceptance of their papers for the INTELEC 2018 Technical Program.

There are a number of steps Authors must complete before their presentation at the Conference.


Important Deadlines

Deadline for lodging your Final PDF paper & Copyright form:       Aug. 27, 2018

Deadline for conference registration as a presenting author:        Aug. 31, 2018



  • There must be at least one registration for the whole conference at the IEEE member or non-member full rate for each paper or poster to be presented at INTELEC 2018.
  • Presentation of one paper is included in the abovementioned full conference registration fee. Presentation of additional papers will be charged 300,00 EUR, VAT included, for each additional paper.
  • Authors are kindly required to register for the conference as soon as possible. This would help the Program Committee to complete the conference program in due time. Deadline for Authors’ registration in order to be included in the conference program will be August 31.  
  • Unless specifically authorized by the Program Technical Committee, accepted papers must be presented by one of the authors listed in the originally submitted digest.
  • Accepted papers not presented at INTELEC 2018 will not be uploaded to IEEE Xplore
  • All accepted papers will be included in the conference e-book on USB stick.


Your final material

  • All required material must be uploaded within the-deadline to the following website
  • Email submissions will NOT be accepted.
  • If you need to edit any author information or resubmit your paper, it may be done up until the submission deadline. Use the author account you created during initial submission, to edit or resubmit.
  • Your final PDF paper must be authored by the same persons nominated as authors in the Abstract/Digest that was previously submitted. If this is no longer possible, please contact the Conference Secretariat as soon as possible.
  • Ensure that your paper does not contain overt commercialism or product endorsement.

Your final PDF paper will be checked by the Program Committee for appropriate content. Content outside expectations may be removed from the Program and not published in Proceedings.


Paper/Poster Manuscript Specifications

Use the template to format of your manuscript paper. There is no difference between a paper and a poster in terms of preparing your material for publication in the Conference Proceedings and uploading to the IEEE Xplore digital library.

Your paper must comply with the following specifications:

  • PDF file MUST be IEEE Xplore compliant
  • Use the tool, IEEE PDF EXPRESS to test and check that the PDF version of your manuscript is fully compliant with requirements. Remember, after checking your file with this tool and getting the ‘OK’, you still have to upload it via the final paper submissions portal on this website. Testing your file does not mean to upload it!
  • Submission Length: Maximum 8 pages, including figures, tables & references
  • Paper Size: A4 (210 mm x 297 mm)
  • Fonts: Embed ALL fonts in your PDF file. No Type 3 fonts allowed.
  • File Format: Adobe PDF ( .pdf)
  • Allowed File Size: 3.0 Mb
  • Do NOT page number your paper
  • Do NOT apply security settings to your PDF file.

Note that there is no capacity for the Program Committee to fix and repair the PDF paper you upload to make it Xplore compliant. Deviations from the above paper specifications could result in removal of your paper from the technical program and the Proceedings.


Using IEEE PDF eXpress to make and/or check your final PDF

Before uploading your final paper through the conference website portal, please check and ensure that your PDF file is compliant by using the IEEE PDF eXpress system. To do this:

  • Create your manuscript in MS Word or similar and proof-read it.
  • Go to the IEEE PDF eXpress web site:
  • Use the conference ID: 43677x
  • Use PDF eXpress to check or create your PDF file
  • Once you have a GOOD PDF file, go back to the INTELEC 2018 paper submission website, login into the author submissions portal, and upload your final submission, together with your signed copyright form.


IEEE Copyright Form

A digital signed copy of the IEEE copyright form must be filled for each accepted paper through IEEE Copyright form (available on the paper submission website).

Note that for papers with multiple authors, only one author signature is necessary.

Remember, without the copyright form we can NOT include your paper in the proceedings!


Presentation Required

Any paper submitted to INTELEC 2018 that is not presented at the Conference will not be submitted to IEEE for inclusion in the IEEE Xplore digital library.

  • IEEE members are required to show evidence of their membership in order to be eligible for member registration fee.

  • There will be no penalty for registration cancellations received 90 days before the first day of the conference. The full amount paid minus a processing fee (20 Euros) and wire transfer or credit card costs will be refunded.
  • A cancellation fee of 50% of the full registration fee plus a processing fee (20 Euros) and wire transfer or credit card costs will be applied for cancellations received between 89 to 45 days before the first day of the conference.
  • A cancellation fee of 75% of the full registration fee plus a processing fee (20 Euros) and wire transfer or credit card costs will be applied for cancellations received between 44 to 20 days before the first day of the conference.
  • No refund will be issued for cancellations received less than 20 days before the firstday of the conference (July 1).

All cancellations must be sent in writing via e-mail ( to the conference secretariat. Cancellation confirmation will be sent within one week.

The conference organising committee and secretariat are not responsible for problems beyond our control such as weather conditions, public order issues, strikes, etc. No refunds will be given in these situations. No reimbursement will be made for late arrival, unused services, unattended events or early departure from the congress.

The final decision on refunds rests with the Intelec 2018 conference organizers.

All refunds will be made within 30 days after the conference ending.

When you register for the conference, you will be confirming that you have reviewed and understood this conference registration refund policy.


Registered conference participants agree that neither the Organizing Committee nor the conference Secretariat are liable or assume any responsibility for damage or injuries to persons or property during the conference. Participants are advised to arrange for their own health, travel and personal
insurances. The conference organization does not cover individuals against cancellation of bookings, theft or damage to belongings.

All best endeavours will be made to present the conference programme as published. However, the conference Organizing Committee and the Secretariat reserve the right to alter or cancel, without prior notice, any arrangements, timetables, plans or other items relating directly or indirectly to the conference, for any cause beyond our reasonable control. The conference Organizing Committee and the Secretariat are not liable for any loss or inconvenience caused as a result of such alteration.

How to get to Torino

Torino lies in the centre of Europe and takes advantage of a well structured connection system by plane, train and car.

By air

Caselle International Airport (, 20 minutes away from the city centre, allows daily connections with the main European cities.

Moreover Malpensa International Airport (, one of the main European hubs connected to more than 120 cities all over the world, is located only 60 minutes' drive from Torino.

By train

Torino has two main railway stations, Porta Nuova and Porta Susa, both in the city centre. They are connected, also with frequent high speed rail services, to the main destinations in Italy and France, and from there to the rest of Europe.

Lyon can be reached in 2.5 hours, Paris in about 5 hours and Milan in only 50 minutes.

Motorways A6 Torino-Savona, A4 Torino-Milan-Venice, A21 Torino-Piacenza-Bologna, A5 Torino-Aosta, A32 Torino-Bardonecchia connect Torino to most Italian cities, to France, Switzerland, Austria and the rest of Europe.

Torino Metro line service usually runs from 5.30 until 00.30 except at weekends (until 01.00) and on Mondays (until 22.00).

The Lingotto Conference Centre can be reached from the city centre in a few minutes by subway (Lingotto metro station). Ticket cost: € 1,50.

Restaurants are usually open from 12.00 to 14.30 and from 19.30 to 22.30. For those who prefer something different to the classic menus, Torino proposes a most pleasant alternative: wine bars. Torino is also renowned for the ability of its pastrycooks.


Located in the north-west of Italy Torino has a continental weather, which is usually mild in late summer and beginning of autumn. Average temperatures range from 14°C to 23°C in October.

Exhibition spaces at the Lingotto Conference Centre

We have an exciting social program planned for INTELEC 2018. You will discover stunnig venues, taste the famous food and wines of Piedmont and meet old and new colleagues in a nice, relaxing atmosphere. 

The social program will include a welcome cocktail reception to be held on Sunday October 7 at the NH Lingotto Congress Hotel (adjacent to the conference venue) and the exhibition cocktail reception on Monday October 8 at the conference venue.

The social dinner will be held on Wednesday October 10 at the Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile (National Car Museum), a fascinating, interactive museum which was recently renovated with a modern, innovative design. A real architectural work of art. A jewel for all car lovers. This social event will be a fantastic occasion to discover one of Torino's most interesting cultural and touristic sites and enjoy the well-known Turin food and wine tradition.

All attendees will have the opportunity to choose among three interesting half-day city tours which will take place on Tuesday Oct. 9 as of 14:00. You can select your preferred tour when registering online for the conference.

1. Discover Torino and Roman Quarter

Bus & walking tour of the city and its highlights. Art and history are very much at home in Turin, and this can be seen by the city’s museums and palazzos, its piazzas, courtyards and churches, its historic relics and avant-garde pieces, its traditions and its progress. You will enjoy the beauty of the historical centre from the Roman gates to the breathtaking Piazza Castello with the Royal Palace. The tour includes a ride on the lower hills of Turin, to have panoramic view on the city and the Alps.

2. The medieval village along the river Po

Bus & walking tour of the city and its highlights along the Po, the longest river in Italy, where magnificent palaces and churches are set. Admire a beautiful landscape rich in art and architecture and have a guided walk through the Medieval village. The tour includes a walk through the city’s landmarks and a ride on the lower hills of Turin, to have panoramic view on the city and the Alps.

3. Torino up & down: city panoramic tour and its Baroque splendors

Bus & walking tour of the downtown city with its highlights and among the hills around the city where is set the magnificent Villa della Regina, memory of the glorious past  of the Royal family of Savoy.  The tour includes a walk through the city’s Baroque treasures and a ride on the lower hills of Turin, to have panoramic view on the city and the Alps.

The Lingotto Complex, located at only 3 km from the city centre, is a prestigious international centre for exhibitions and conference business. Renzo Piano’s design has made a modern centre of the building that once was Fiat’s first major car factory.
