Sustainable Management of Manure and Organic Residues for a Circular and Climate-Neutral Agriculture

RAMIRAN 2027 is part of the long-standing RAMIRAN Network (Recycling of Agricultural, Municipal and Industrial Residues in Agriculture Network), which for over 40 years has brought together researchers, policymakers, industry professionals, farmers and other stakeholders from across Europe and beyond to advance knowledge and innovation in the sustainable use of organic resources.

Agriculture is undergoing a profound transition towards more circular, resilient and climate-neutral systems, driven by the need to ensure food security while reducing environmental impacts, mitigating climate change, preserving natural resources and improving nutrient use efficiency.

In this context, manure and other organic resources, including agricultural by-products, digestates, food-processing residues, sewage sludge (biosolids) and organic bio-waste, are increasingly recognised as valuable resources for closing nutrient cycles, improving soil health, producing renewable energy and supporting the circular bioeconomy. Their sustainable management is essential to reducing emissions, protecting air, soil and water quality, and strengthening the long-term sustainability of agricultural systems.

RAMIRAN 2027 will be hosted by the Department of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences (DISAFA) (link: https://en.disafa.unito.it/do/home.pl) of the University of Turin, Italy. The conference will provide an international forum for presenting the latest scientific advances, innovative technologies and integrated solutions across the entire organic resource value chain, from livestock housing and manure management to advanced treatment technologies, nutrient recovery, agronomic utilisation, environmental assessment, digital innovation and policy development. The conference will foster dialogue among researchers, industry, policymakers and practitioners, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and the development of collaborative solutions to address current and future challenges in sustainable agriculture.
