ASSISi, the Anti-Seismic Systems International Society, Inc., is a non-profit organization based in Berkeley, California, U.S.A., committed to the advancement and promotion of seismic isolation and energy dissipation technologies. ASSISi was originally established on October 5, 2001 in Assisi (Italy), during the Closing Panel of the 7th International Seminar on Seismic Isolation, Passive Energy Dissipation and Active Control of Seismic Vibrations of Structures. As Assisi is internationally known as the city of Saint Francis, it carries a meaning of “Peace and International Cooperation”. Having ASSISi as the name for the Society reaffirms the founders’ willingness to take a clear symbolic position to build a better and safer world through international cooperation and collaboration.
The ISI Association – Ingegneria Sismica Italiana – was born from the need to create an organization that represents the protagonists in the different areas of this sector in Italy. The mission of the ISI Association is to involve the various actors who operate in the field of Italian Earthquake Engineering in a dynamic group that represents and promotes them, organizing dissemination activities of their work, communicating with official bodies, institutions and regulatory bodies, with the academic and scientific community, with the industrial and professional world.
